You are Alice Thorn, a witch living on the edge of the medieval kingdom of Larion. You have a wand and a pet alligator named Tooth. As you sit in your swamp hut mixing a magical potion, you hear a knock at the door. You open it and see a group of men surrounding you. The leader of the men has black teeth and wears a mask. He carries a rifle with a bayonet. "You need to come with us," he says. > You say "Welcome to my little hut. May I ****** you in for tea?" You extend your hand to shake hands with the leader but he looks down his nose at you, ignoring your hand. You withdraw your hand and decide to ****** him in for tea instead. "I'd love to!" > You beckon him inside and sit him down on a stool. You sit the leader of the men on a stool that was placed in front of your fireplace. You put down the cauldron you were stirring into and head to the pantry to get some scones. > You say "How are things in the town? It's been awhile since I've visited. Is Timmy doing better since I healed his broken arm? " You have never liked the way this man looks at you when you are in his immediate presence, like you are a bug he wants to pin down and study. > You serve the scones and wait for an answer. "Things are going well. Your attempt to cure my bayonet man was successful. He is doing better now and I can't thank you enough for that." "My pleasure." > You say "So why is it that you've roused half the town to my hut tonight?" "We have had a series of burglaries in our town and we need to catch the burglar. We were hoping you would do us this favor." "Is that all?" > You say "I'd be happy to help my town. Do you have any leads on this case?" "Well, we think that the culprit is a man." "I figured as much." "We also think that he has a partner who is a woman." "Hm, and you figured that too?" Grab a deck of tarrot cards sitting on the mantle. "These could give us a hint". You shuffle the deck and pick a card. The Fool appears. Suddenly, there is a loud knock on the hut's door. The man in the mask jumps. He looks at you, then at the door, then at the ground and back at you. "Please, this is just too much," he says. > You say "Please come in!" The door opens and a man with a gun steps inside. He has a patch over one eye. "It's ok," he says as he closes the door behind him. "I'm here to help. > You flip over the next tarrot card. The Hanged Man appears. The man in the mask looks at the card and slowly puts it back with the rest of the deck. "I think you might want to keep this one." ... > You say "Oh, the fool and the hanged man. How ominous. Tarrot readings flip three cards. Go ahead. One more." The man shakes his head 'no'. "Please, I really don't want to do this." "I'll turn them over. No harm will come to you." The man with the eyepatch flips over the next tarrot card revealing... The Star. "This is the card of hope. It indicates that you need to lower your guard." "Let me see your face." He slowly looks up at you. Wind whirls around the witch as she gazes into the eyepatched mans remaining eye. She sees a swirling darkness that threatens to consume her. "Please, I'm sorry for what I did. I was weak and foolish and now it's come to this. > You say "So who's the lady working with you? How many things have you stolen?" The man nervously looks down. He explains that he works alone and is afraid of getting caught. "Please, I don't want to die." > You turn to the man with the mask. "I think we found your criminal. But remember, the hanged man has been drawn. Please take him away." "Good." You stand to go. As you do, the man tries to grab your hand. You gently tug and he falls over. "Please, I'm sorry." You sigh and grab his hand. Alice Thorn's Pet Crocodile scamper's over to the man with the eyepatch while he is vulnerable on the floor. "Things down there are for him" Alice proclaims. The man screams and the alligator tears into his arm. He looks up at you, his face a mixture of pain and terror. Blood pours out of his arm like a broken faucet. > You turn back to the masked man. "Is there anything else I can help you with?" "No, you've been a great help." "Ok." The man politely asks to use the bathroom. You tell him that it's the last door on the left in the front room. > You step outside for a moment, and ask one of the other men standing out there to take the bleeding person out of the hut. One of the thugs nods and enters the hut, leaving you alone outside with the two witches. As you gaze to the swamp, you hear a scream from inside the hut. > You say "Good evening, coven. I didn't realize fellow witches were out here. Are you also caught up in the burglary case?" "They're not part of the coven. They just hang around here sometimes." You hear the sound of a gun cocking. "What happened to your friend?" > You look around to see what's going on. The men seem to be aiming at you. "What's going on?" The tallest one says: "We're taking out the competition." The other one laughs and points the gun at your head. Sensing the danger that Alice was in, Tooth darts out of the hut and lunges at the man holding a gun to her. They struggle for a moment, then the other two men run over to help their comrade. You draw your own gun from your shoulder holster and fire back at the gunmen. The bullets had been cursed with a strange effect to turn the air into blades that cut through flesh and bone. While you managed to kill one of the gunmen, the other one ran to the back of the house where you assume he's been trying to break in. > You ask the other witches if they'd be willing to help you protect your property. The women only giggle in response. A gunshot from the doorway of the house meant the man had finally managed to break in. > You say "I hope you're hungry, Tooth, let's get them." You turn back to face the doorway as you hear the sound of a gun cocking and the hissing of air through the barrel. > You use magic to stop the gun. You run over to the doorway and stop the bullet in it's tracks, but the blast of hot air from the barrel knocks you back into the room. > You cast a quick spell to generate a force field around yourself. You levitate back up and prepare to face your assailants. The doorway is empty, but you hear the sound of a gun cocking. The other two men charge in from the front room. Alice screams, and an orb of intense light blinks into existence, temporarily blinding everybody in the room. You see one of the thugs staggering into the room and collapsing. A second later, the orb fades and you see that the man is dead. This is all the distraction that you need, and you cast a powerful beam of pure magic energy straight at the head of the second man. He screams as his face explodes into a mass of red, and he staggers to the side, dead. > You say "Is that everybody Tooth?" You hear a hissing sound, and the whole hut seems to shake. The noise is getting louder. Alice screams, the hut shakes, and you suddenly feel a tremendous force knock you back into the hut. The roof is partially destroyed, and you can barely see through the tears in the thatch. Another blast knocks you back into the corner of the room, destroying part of the wall. > You begin reciting a spell to warp the hut and everything in it away from this place. As you begin to chant, you suddenly hear a strange noise outside. You stop and look out the door, and see a strange beast standing there. > You say "Strange beast, it's been a busy evening. Can I help you in some way?" The beast hisses, and you know that this is the creature that attacked Tooth earlier. The creature begins to approach you, floating through the air with incredible speed. > You grab the wand that is always next to the door, and use it to help fight the strange beast. In a moment, you have grabbed the wand. The creature stops in front of you, and snarls through it's tentacles. > You say "Avera Kedavera VOID SPAWN" The air in front of you begins to swirl, and a portal opens up, and the creature bursts through it. The creature stops suddenly, and you see it's tentacles begin to disappear into the portal. > You say "Peko peko doko below so" Suddenly, the portal disappears, and you see the hut and everything in it start to descend into darkness. As the hut flies through the void of darkness, Alice returns to her half destroyed living room. That's when she notices for the first time that her pet croc, Tooth, is hurt. The huge reptilian beast is missing half of its teeth, lying in the corner bleeding profusely from several deep bite wounds. Alice rushes over to it, and notices that the wounds are too large to properly bandage. > You use the half ready potion that you was brewing to heal Tooth. You pour the half-cooked potion into Tooth's mouth, and he begins to vomit up blood. > You "Things sometimes have to get worse to get better" you begin to pray. The beast begins to retch, blood oozing out of its mouth. "Thank you." Alice whispers. Suddenly the beast opens it's eyes, and begins to look up at you. > You check to see how Tooth is doing. The beast looks at you, and then weakly begins to struggle to get up. > You say "Alrighty. Just relax for a bit. I'll try to figure out where this house is going." Tooth takes a deep breath, and then falls over. > You look out the window into the flowing void. You stare out into the blackness, watching as the darkness flows past. > You look for your crystal ball. There is a flashing light, and then you see your crystal ball glowing brightly in the corner of the room. You reach out for it, trying to figure out how to use it, but then you stop yourself. You've reached level 3!
