So the whole topic of essentially why Melty is hard for people in terms of retention of even the case of picking up to play Many people obviously picked up the first reason being that since it's peer to peer and you have to connect via IP directly. it really throws people off, rightfully so. The 2nd reason is the fact that the server is just not a healthy environment for players to go there overall involves a bit more history before going further. Back when I started in 2016 playing melty I showed up in the server and immediately was met with all all sorts of slurs that could come out. In fact, this is one example, screenshot of how meltycord's atmosphere can be: https://i.imgur.com/jLlZrD2.png(referring to SA region). https://i.imgur.com/uroeyIY.png https://i.imgur.com/VJXFQu2.png https://i.imgur.com/K0alYuN.png https://i.imgur.com/185xWX8.png https://i.imgur.com/zBwLONt.png https://i.imgur.com/7dmeeot.png https://i.imgur.com/JF3k1da.png https://i.imgur.com/yUsJws1.png https://i.imgur.com/hIBcce0.png https://i.imgur.com/WOpbrzc.png https://i.imgur.com/ui23xGn.png https://i.imgur.com/nIRoHjH.png here's one screenshot of an individual that happens pop up time and time again: https://i.imgur.com/NjO2y93.png At some point in time which I cannot remember the same person said he was going to sign up to one of the offline majors as "the tranny crusader" and eventually because of the overall server's atmosphere, an alternative server to be made. My issue is not with this particular individual. and my ultimate question really is why is the server's policies so lax? Why does it have a NSFW channel? what purpose does this truly have? Why does it have a NSFW VC channel? Why does the moderator team not work in sync? The last question is important because in 2020 Greats reappeared in the melty main server looking for games and various accounts witnessed him saying "F*g" but a mod deleted it with no screenshots. Long story short it took a good amount of days with voices from many members to finally convince greats should be banned even after his escapade involving an offline event and his tweets. This is also not mentioning that one of the members of melty left because someone used the term "j*p" a derogatory term one night and people went to defend their case instead of reprimanding them in full. that was around late 2020 i believe. Now byte is back, if you care to search his name on discord you can easily find a good bit of his newer posts with some poor choice of words. The breaking point for me is if you looked some of the screenshots it is still current year or relatively recent. and the 2nd reason as to why people have a hard time getting into melty used to be lack of resources. it's being fixed and for the most part it is fixed up enough that you can pick up and learn. Many times members from where I visited and some just straight up quit is BECAUSE of seeing the bad apples in the server. not everyone is like this of course but as you see in the screenshots it's more often shrugged off or chimed in, encouraged. To see individuals in that server also calling other melty servers like "the himecord" toxic always boggled my mind because *you* chose to do this willingly and then have the nerve to call other servers toxic. it's utter madness and while one could blame it on the bad actors at hand, you can't really from my perspective not when you have whoever is running that server allowing a nsfw channel and a nsfw vc channel and having good mods burn themselves out trying to their job but their team is holding them back. My only hope is that by the time Lumina arrives that it doesn't keep being like this.
