Webchester, officially the Confederation of Webchester is a federal republic composed of 26 states, with federal authorities based in Webchesterfield.

According to the Webchester Constitution, the states are sovereign to the extent that their sovereignty is not limited by federal law. Areas specifically reserved to the Confederation are the armed forces, currency, the postal service, telecommunications, immigration into and emigration from the country, granting asylum, conducting foreign relations with sovereign states, civil and criminal law, weights and measures, and customs duties.

Each state has its own constitution, legislature, executive, police and courts. Similar to the Confederation, a directorial system of government is followed by the cantons. Most of the state legislatures are unicameral parliaments, their size varying between 58 and 200 seats.

Although the majority of the population are English-speaking, the national identity is rooted in a common historical background, shared values such as federalism and direct democracy. The sovereign state is one of the most developed countries in the world.

Webchester has three national languages: mainly English, French and German. The federal government is obliged to communicate in the official languages, and in the federal parliament simultaneous translation is provided from and into English, French and German. Learning one of the other national languages at school is compulsory for all Webchester pupils, so many Webchesterians are supposed to be at least bilingual, especially those belonging to linguistic minority groups. Besides the national languages, several languages are spoken natively including Spanish, Arabic and Russian.
