Hey guys, I have a few important things that need to be heard. This year, now that we have a complete Supervisor team, I have new expectations. Please read the comments below this post, then confirm. Let's discuss this, and more, at our first leadership meeting of the year in Feb. • There must ALWAYS be a Supervisor available to the Front of House staff. This is a big one due to lots of staff feedback, especially juniors working on the weekends. I understand there's a million and one things to do, and that you probably know you can do a task quicker than another staff member- but it's time to trust others, and give them some of the responsibilities that you're taking on that you may not have to. That's going to be a huge focus this year.. I don't want you 3 burning yourselves out all the time, and I think a big way to stop that from happening is to train other staff members in things that will help free you up. It's very important from this moment onwards that there is always someone wearing blue out at the front counter. It's so much easier to run the day smoothly when you can see what is going on. Please don't be out the back doing dishes, leaving juniors and the barista out the front alone. Utilise your team! • Strongly limit your complaining to staff members. Nothing surprises me anymore, I've heard it all. Even though Ellice has been gone for quite some time, we still often find ourselves working in a "he said, she said", toxic environment. If you complain about me, work, or another staff member then staff seem to think that's okay and it seeps in to our culture as a team. I get it, not everyone loves work, I'm pretty sure nobody in history has ever liked their boss, and yes, you will clash heads with other staff members. But I ask that you please keep unnecessary comments to yourselves, and if we need to we will work it out as a team. We need to look, and be, unified to gain respect from the rest of the group. • If you're unsure of something, or want to try something new ask me. The most frustrating part of my role when I was a supervisor was that I wasn't aloud to implement my ideas for improvement. I always want you guys to come to me with your ideas, tell me what you want to do and why you think it'll help, 10 times out of 10 I would love to discuss new ideas with you. Please do ask first. General communication has to be better with all of us, on both ends. I may need to create some sort of group chat, but we can look in to that. It looks very unprofessional when we all decide to do things differently, tell staff members different things, or go behind eachothers backs to make huge changes. I need us to decide as a group how we would like to operate. Similar to the last point, it's important to gain respect from the rest of the group. This can't be done when we're all power hungry, butting heads, or confused as to what direction we're headed. In summary, let's communicate better, let's be available to staff members, and let's try to create a more positive work environment. To be positive for a moment, I'm very happy with how things went when I was on leave. I was very anxious to step away for 2 weeks, but upon returning I felt so much relief. Thank you for all your hard work! 😁 As I mentioned above, I am in the process of working on a date for a leadership meeting. I will get back to you all with more on that asap.
